Today, primary health care is called upon to deal mainly with infections and chronic diseases. Diseases such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, smoking are cover the majority of health problems.
Primary health care doctors are trying to help the patients with the above-mentioned health problems with also other health conditions or atypical clinical picture. The approach is done in a holistic way, that is, taking into account both the physical and mental and social dimensions of clinical problems.
The management of modern diseases includes prevention, correct diagnosis and treatment with both pharmaceutical and non-pharmacological measures. Above all, a process of support and counseling in a way that helps every individual to manage the his own health problems by himself, especially in cases of a chronic nature, is necessary.
Maria Belechri short presentation
I graduated Athens Medical School. My interest in Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine force me to complete a Master of Science in Preventive Medicine in Athens Medical School. After gaining a scholarship from National foundation of Scholarships I completed a Master of Science on Epidemiology at Harvard School of Public Health, Boston, USA. My interest for preventive medicine and the fact that I was a former champion on track and field 400m hurdles lead me to completed a Phd on epidemiology and prevention of sports injuries. My thesis paper gained the first award on 6th World Congress of Prevention and Injury Control, Montreal Canada 2002.
I started my training in internal medicine in Greece and I completed in UK, where I was trained on infectious disease department, chest medicine and geriatrics. I worked as a lecturer on epidemiology and preventive medicine in Athens medical School.
Now, I practice medicine in my office in Glyfada, I am head of internal medicine department at Medifirst Primary Care Clinic and advisor in Interamerican insurance company. I am married and mother of two daughters.
As a former champion and a doctor I always trying to live up to my professional commitment to excellence: a commitment to maintain the up-to-date knowledge and skills needed to treat my patients. My patients are my first concern: to offer them my knowledge as well as my compassion.

What are the opening hours of the clinic?
The clinic is open Monday afternoon 17.00-20.00, Tuesday morning 10.00-13.00 and Friday afternoon 17.00-20.00.

Take information about the doctor with you
- What medicines are you taking? In what doses and for what conditions? Do you take any supplements? You can have notes, photos on your cell phone or the boxes of medicines you take.It is also important to know if you have any drug allergies.
- Bring your recent test results with you.
- Remember to take your booklet with you or have your AMKA with you. If you have insurance with a private insurance company, take your insurance card with you.
All this information will facilitate your meeting with the doctor.
Can you come to the clinic with a relative or friend?
Sometimes it is useful to have a relative or close friend accompany you to your doctor’s visit, who can provide further information about your health condition. The attendant can wait for you in the waiting area during your examination if you wish.
Exact time of arrival at the health appointment
Appointments are scheduled with the aim of better serving all patients. Sometimes there is a short wait, since a patient may have a complex health problem and need more time. Our goal, of course, is punctuality in appointment times.
